I've been working in the industry for 15 years as an Events Host. I host weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, pageants, almost all kinds of events in the gig, local scenes and even outside the country. One of the best things I have developed throughout my hosting career is the ability to think on my feet, because hosting is not merely about reading from a script. It’s about reading situations and people, and knowing how to steer the program and show in the right direction while still being appropriate. No event goes exactly the way it’s planned to, last minute changes will always happen, they’ll always have to add something on the fly or change something on the spot so you have to be able to seamlessly adapt to those changes, making it look like that’s the way it was supposed to happen. More often than not, organizers will ask you to stretch for a period of time, so this is where spontaneity comes in. And for the record, this is by far my strongest suit, being able to milk any conversation for all that it’s worth, and talk about pretty much everything under the sun should they ask me to do so. With that all being said, hosting is incredibly rewarding for me. There are few jobs where you get instant feedback on how you’re doing at your job. If the audience looks happy and entertained, then I know I must be doing something right.
